How the calculator works

Each result comes from a short formula, so you can check it or rebuild it in a spreadsheet.

Calculator formulas
ResultFormula
Total postsNumber of KOLs x posts per KOL
Total campaign costTotal posts x fee per post + production, brief and management costs + (bonus per activated user x activated users)
Total viewsTotal posts x average views per post
Cost per 1,000 views (CPM)Total campaign cost divided by total views, x 1,000
Expected clicksTotal views x click-through rate
Sign-ups and activated usersClicks x sign-up rate, then sign-ups x activation rate
Cost per resultTotal campaign cost divided by clicks, sign-ups or activated users
Max fee per postTarget x activated users, minus production, brief and management costs, minus bonus payments, divided by total posts

A result shows n/a when there is nothing to divide by, for example cost per click at a click-through rate of 0%. The bonus only adds cost for users who activate, so total cost rises as the funnel improves.

Where to get each input

  • Fees and fixed costs. Ask every KOL to quote the same scope: format, number of posts, how long each post stays up and whether a pin, a quote post or a Telegram cross-post is included. Put briefing, content review, tracking links and reporting in the fixed costs line so agency and in-house plans compare like for like.
  • Average views per post. Ask for native analytics screenshots of the last 20 posts and use the median, not the best post. Our crypto KOL due diligence checklist covers how to check that the views and the audience behind them are real.
  • Click, sign-up and activation rates. Use tagged links from your own past KOL campaigns and your product analytics. With no history, start low and treat the first wave as the test that gives you real numbers.
  • Activation event and target. Pick the event your business values and your analytics can count: KYC passed for an exchange, a first deposit for a trading or betting product, a wallet connected for a dapp. Set the target from your own user value figures for that market, not from another project's number.

How to read the results

Cost per 1,000 views compares reach between KOLs of different sizes. Cost per activated user compares outcomes. Use both: a KOL can be cheap per 1,000 views and expensive per activated user if the audience sits in regions your product cannot serve or on a chain you do not support.

The max fee per post is your negotiation anchor. If the calculator says your target is not reachable, a lower fee alone rarely fixes it. Look for KOLs whose audience fits the product, cut fixed costs you do not need, or test a hybrid deal with a smaller base fee and a bonus per activated user.

Treat the output as a plan, not a forecast. Views can include bots, sign-ups arrive days after the post, and the attribution window changes the count. Agree the activation event, the source of truth and the window with each KOL before launch. Our guide to crypto influencer marketing ROI covers the tracking this depends on.

What drives crypto KOL fees

There is no universal KOL rate, and this page does not publish one. Five variables move a quote, so ask every KOL to price them as separate lines.

  1. Tier. Audience size matters less than reachable audience: engaged followers in the regions and language your product serves. A large account with a thin or bought audience costs more per activated user at any fee.
  2. Platform. An X post, an X thread, a Telegram channel post, a YouTube integration and an X Spaces appearance are different units with different reach and shelf life. Compare like with like first, then compare platforms on cost per activated user.
  3. Format. A single post, a thread, a video review and a live AMA take different amounts of work. Retention period, pinning, revision rounds and reuse of the content in your own ads change the price too.
  4. Exclusivity. A clause that stops the KOL from promoting competing projects for a period removes other income from them, so it carries a price. Keep it as its own line and keep the period no longer than the campaign needs.
  5. Payment in tokens with vesting. A token allocation is not cash. Record the number of tokens, the cliff, the unlock schedule and the valuation date, and enter a cash equivalent in the fee field only with that method written down. The holding is also a material connection the audience needs to see disclosed.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compare quotes from different crypto KOLs?

Ask every KOL to price the same scope, with format, number of posts, retention, exclusivity and payment terms as separate lines. Then run each quote through the calculator with the same funnel assumptions and compare cost per 1,000 views and cost per activated user instead of headline fees.

What counts as an activated user?

The event you choose before launch: KYC passed, a first deposit or a wallet connected. Pick one your product analytics records reliably and that clicks alone cannot trigger, then use the same definition for every KOL.

What is a good cost per activated user for a KOL campaign?

There is no universal benchmark. It depends on your product, market and user value. Set the target from your own finance figures and compare KOLs against it on the same attribution rules.

Should I pay KOLs a bonus per activated user?

A hybrid deal with a base fee and a bonus per activated user shares the risk when tracking is reliable. Established KOLs usually want a guaranteed fee, so the bonus tends to sit on top of a smaller base. The bonus field shows what it adds at your expected volume.

Can I link to the calculator from my site?

Yes. Copy the snippet in the embed section: it is a plain link to this page. The calculator cannot be shown in an iframe on another site.

Does the KOL calculator save or send my campaign data?

No. It runs in your browser and sends nothing. Your numbers only reach us if you paste the summary into a Telegram message or bring it to a call.
