Branded operating framework for crypto KOL due diligence

crypto KOL due diligence

Audit the influence before you rent it.

Crypto KOL selection is a due-diligence problem. Public follower counts and engagement averages can hide audience mismatch, coordinated behaviour, over-sponsorship and a history that creates more risk than reach.

A reusable evaluation record with observable checks and rejection reasons.Operator-ledEvidence-awareBuilt for a decision

01 / crypto KOL

Verify identity and channel ownership

Confirm the creator controls the quoted profiles and commercial contact. Review naming history, linked channels and signs of impersonation. For high-risk deals, use a live confirmation through an established channel.

Record the verification date. Crypto accounts change hands, are compromised and attract copies; old screenshots should not serve as permanent proof.

02 / crypto KOL

Inspect the audience, not one metric

Look at geography, language, topic participation, follower growth, engagement distribution and the substance of replies. Sudden growth or repetitive comments are prompts for deeper review, not automatic guilt.

Sample ordinary posts and sponsored posts separately. A creator may have genuine influence yet perform poorly for frequent promotions.

03 / crypto KOL

Review expertise and commercial history

Map the topics the creator covers well, the claims they make, past sponsors, conflicts, disclosure habits and deleted or corrected content where visible. Ask for campaign evidence that can be independently reconciled.

Classify the creator’s best role. A sharp technical explainer should not be evaluated only on announcement reach.

04 / crypto KOL

Write an auditable recommendation

Give each candidate a proceed, proceed-with-controls or reject decision. Name the evidence, unresolved questions, intended role and limits.

Keep rejection reasons factual and relevant. The goal is a repeatable buying decision, not a private reputation score.
