Crypto Community Incident Updates: Brief Creators and Moderators

A creator should not diagnose a security incident from a screenshot in a group chat. Give the campaign team one approved statement, a clear pause instruction and a verified place to send questions while the client investigates.

Give one client owner control of the facts

Start with the person authorized to confirm what happened. Record their role, the time of the latest statement and the channel through which you verified it. An urgent private message from a familiar display name needs checking through the established contact route before it changes public instructions.

Ask for the specific service affected, the action users should take or avoid, and the next update point. Leave the cause and extent unknown until the client can establish them. A technical team investigating a website issue has not necessarily confirmed a wallet compromise, data exposure or loss of funds.

The community management team can maintain consistent public answers within its agreed remit. Technical remediation and any required incident notifications belong to the client’s authorized specialists. Keep that division visible so moderators do not improvise a security verdict.

Pause the material that depends on the affected journey

Make an inventory of scheduled creator posts, live streams, pinned community messages and paid reuse. Identify which items send people to the affected service or repeat a claim the client can no longer confirm. Give each owner a direct instruction to pause those items and request acknowledgement.

Use the campaign takedown plan for the mechanics of stopping or correcting existing content. This incident procedure adds the communication record: what the client has confirmed, which statement supersedes the old one and what remains unknown.

Do not issue a blanket “everything is safe” message to preserve a campaign date. A pause instruction can be narrow: hold the tutorial linking to the affected page while an unrelated, factual product interview remains under separate review. If the boundary is unclear, keep the dependent promotion stopped until the owner clarifies it.

Write a statement record that survives handoffs

Keep an internal record and a shorter approved public message. The internal version identifies decisions and unanswered questions. The public version should contain only information the client has approved for that audience. Never paste private diagnostic logs into a community announcement.

Proposed incident statement record
ItemWorking instruction
Statement versionUnique identifier and timestamp with time zone
Confirmed factsClient-approved facts and evidence owner
UnknownsQuestions still under investigation
Audience actionSpecific approved step or instruction to wait
Verified destinationExisting official channel for updates
DistributionChannel, person responsible and acknowledgement
Next updatePromised checkpoint or explicit statement that timing is unknown
Restart authoritySeparate written permission to resume affected promotion

A new version needs a short change note. “Version 3 replaces the destination in version 2” is more useful than a fresh block of copy without context. Archive earlier versions privately so the team can reconstruct which instruction each creator received.

Help people verify the message without amplifying a scam

Use the project’s established official channels and confirm their handles before sending users anywhere. Ethereum.org’s safety guidance warns against sharing recovery phrases, private keys or passwords and against unofficial support contacts. Apply that narrow principle to the announcement and moderator answers.

Avoid adding a new “support wallet,” asking people to connect a wallet to confirm safety, or reposting a suspected malicious link as a clickable warning. A creator can direct viewers to the verified update location without demonstrating an unverified recovery action.

The creator-to-community safety handoff covers the normal arrival route. During an incident, check that the pinned instructions still match the latest approved statement. Remove obsolete instructions through the channel’s ordinary moderation process and retain the change record.

Rehearse the uncertain case

In a hypothetical exercise, a project reports that its website provider is investigating an issue. The client has not confirmed user impact. A creator is due to publish an onboarding clip, and moderators are receiving questions about whether wallets are affected.

The campaign lead pauses the clip because it sends viewers to the affected website. Moderators publish the client-approved description of the service disruption and say that the investigation continues. They do not translate “website under investigation” into “wallets compromised” or “funds unaffected.” Both would add facts.

The coordinator records creator acknowledgement, checks the scheduler and captures the actual public message. At the next update, the team changes only what the client has confirmed. This exercise tests whether the communication system can tolerate an unknown answer without filling it with reassurance.

Restart promotion with a fresh instruction

Recovery of the website and permission to resume promotion are separate decisions. Ask the client owner to confirm the destination and current product facts. Check the final clip and caption for outdated instructions, especially claims about availability or security.

Send creators the approved replacement version and an explicit release instruction. Check public posts after they go live; a private acknowledgement does not prove the right version published. Keep support questions directed to the verified client channel and give moderators the same updated fact set.

Close the communication record with the final statement, actual publication receipts and remaining unanswered questions. 3betmedia can scope community moderation and creator coordination around that record. The scope should name the client contact who remains responsible for technical findings.
