Choose the cohort entry event
Use an explicitly defined first-successful-deposit event or another agreed acquisition event. Name the operator boundary, attribution rule and eligibility conditions. Public programme terms show that commission qualification can add requirements beyond a payment.
Once a person joins the cohort, do not count their next deposit as another acquired customer. Keep repeat transactions and repeat depositors in separate fields. If the operator cannot deduplicate people safely, report the available transaction measure without pretending it is a unique-user count.
Compare equal follow-up periods
Give every cohort the same elapsed observation time. A month-old group has had more opportunity for repeat activity than a group acquired last week. Label immature windows provisional and freeze the cutoff used for comparison.
Calendar-month reporting and cohort-age reporting serve different purposes. Finance may close a calendar statement while marketing asks what happened within 30 days of entry. Preserve both definitions rather than forcing one figure to satisfy incompatible questions.
Show the denominator beside the percentage
In an invented example, 100 eligible first depositors enter a cohort and 25 make another accepted deposit within the chosen follow-up window. The observed repeat-depositor proportion is 25%. It is not a recommended target or evidence that continued gambling benefits those people.
If the report instead counts 60 later deposit transactions, that is a different measure. The 25 people may each transact more than once. Do not divide transaction count by acquired people and label the result a repeat-customer percentage.

Investigate composition before renewing
A creator’s new cohort can differ in eligible geography, offer exposure and product preference from another’s. Record meaningful permitted aggregate differences and known gaps. Do not infer individual motives, income or vulnerability from sparse campaign data.
A hypothetical renewal review discovers that one code’s apparent acquisition growth includes returning customers. Reclassify them under the agreed definition. Their activity may still be relevant to a separate campaign objective, but it cannot repair a shortfall in new-customer acquisition.
| Field | Required context |
|---|---|
| Entry | First eligible event, attribution rule and operator boundary |
| Size | Original deduplicated cohort count, with corrections shown |
| Follow-up | Equal elapsed window and provisional periods identified |
| Repeat measure | Distinct repeat depositors separated from later transactions |
| Interpretation | Commercial observation, not a claim about customer benefit |
Keep commercial evaluation and player protection aligned
Use authorised revenue and cost measures when assessing the campaign, and disclose uncertainty in recent cohorts. Do not encourage a creator to chase non-returning players, evade exclusion rules or frame further deposits as necessary for success.
The operational output is a cohort table with entry rule, size, elapsed window, first and repeat measures, corrections and source owner. That table supports a defensible renewal conversation. It does not prove long-term value or justify a universal instruction to retain only the most active gamblers.
Read the negative-carryover clause before interpreting a cohort’s monthly commission movement.
Frequently asked questions
Can a repeat depositor count as another FTD?
Not under a first-depositor definition for the same operator boundary. Keep repeat activity separate and resolve cross-brand cases explicitly.
Should we compare seven-day and 30-day cohorts?
Only with clear maturity labels and a suitable method. For a simple like-for-like comparison, use equal elapsed follow-up.
