Why airdrop campaigns fail without the right audience
An airdrop is acquisition cost paid in tokens. If the wrong wallets claim it, you pay full price for users who sell on day one and never open the app again.
- Farms find you first. Linea filtered 516,960 Sybil addresses before its token drop, The Block reported in January 2025. Any campaign that rewards raw activity attracts scripts before it attracts people.
- Most drops lose holders fast. Keyrock studied 62 airdrops from 2024 and found about 88% of the tokens fell in value within months, with most of the damage inside 15 days. Community interest faded in roughly two weeks.
- Pay-to-post is gone on X. On 15 January 2026 X revoked API access for apps that reward users for posting, and Kaito sunset its Yaps feature the same day, per Decrypt. Paid reach on X now runs through disclosed creator deals.
- App stores restrict reward tasks. Apple's App Review Guideline 3.1.5 says crypto apps may not offer currency for tasks such as downloading other apps or posting to social networks, as of October 2026. Quests inside a mobile app need a different design.
Testnets are usually where this starts, and our guide to hiring crypto KOLs for testnet campaigns covers creator selection for that stage in more depth.
Quest platforms, KOLs or both: what each brings to an airdrop
Teams often ask whether to spend on a quest platform or on creators. They do different jobs, and the mix decides who ends up in your snapshot.
| Channel | Who it brings | Sybil exposure | What to measure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quest and task platforms | Reward hunters working through checklists | High, simple tasks are easy to script | Unique wallets that pass your filters |
| Crypto KOLs on X | Followers who trust one voice | Medium, depends on audience quality | Wallets still active 30 days after the claim |
| YouTube explainers | Users who want a full walkthrough first | Low, long videos rarely convert scripts | Completed onboarding from the tracked link |
| Live streamers | Viewers who watched the product used live | Low, chat questions happen in real time | Actions taken during and after the stream |
| Clippers | Broad reach on Shorts, TikTok and X | Medium, depends on the call to action | Cost per verified view and sign-ups |
A sound airdrop marketing strategy uses quests for volume only after creators have built a base of real users your filters can compare against. We do not run quest platforms, but we time creator content around yours. Our token launch marketing page covers what happens once the token trades.
How we run an airdrop marketing campaign
Five steps, from the action you want repeated to the report after distribution.
- Define the real user. We agree on the action that proves a person rather than a script: a bridge plus a repeat trade, a testnet task done twice, or a week of use. That action becomes every creator's call to action.
- Cast for audience quality. Creators are checked for bot followers, past paid shills and audience location, so the people they bring can pass your eligibility rules.
- Brief the product, not the payout. Scripts show what the product does and how to use it. Reward talk stays factual: no promised allocation, no price talk, and every post labelled as paid.
- Stagger before the snapshot. Explainers go out first, live sessions follow for questions, and clips run through the season. We avoid booking the final days, when farmers rush in.
- Follow through after the claim. A smaller creator budget is kept for the weeks after distribution, showing what to do next in the product, because that is when most holders leave.
Every KOL goes through the checks in our crypto KOL due diligence guide before we put them in front of your snapshot.

What you get
- An eligibility-aware brief The real user action, banned claims and disclosure rules for every creator.
- A vetted creator shortlist KOLs, explainers, streamers and clippers with audience data and sponsor history.
- A season calendar Content timed to points epochs, testnet phases and the snapshot.
- Tracked links per creator So your filters can compare each creator's wallets with the rest.
- A post-claim retention push Creator content for the weeks after distribution, when holders decide whether to stay.
We report from your own data: wallets per creator, the share that passed your Sybil filters, and the share still active 30 and 60 days after the claim. A creator who brings many wallets that fail your filters ranks below one who brings fewer that stay.
If users need a wallet before the first task, our creator wallet onboarding guide shows how we brief that step so newcomers are not lost at setup.
Why 3betmedia
Our team has run creator pushes for testnets and early ecosystems since 2018. For OKX, creators brought 7,609 testnet participants. Saakuru Labs reached 12,000 testnet users against a 10,000 target, and a Polkadot campaign for Hydration added 980 wallets and 5,420 followers.
We only work on the creator side: KOLs, streamers, clippers and UGC. We do not promise token prices or allocations, and no creator of ours calls an airdrop free money. Campaigns start from $2,000, and our breakdown of crypto KOL marketing cost shows what moves the price.

Frequently asked questions
What does a crypto airdrop marketing agency do?
It brings people into a points program, testnet or token drop and tries to keep them after the claim. 3betmedia does this through creators only, briefed on the product rather than the reward, and reports wallets that pass your filters and stay active.
How is an airdrop marketing agency different from a quest platform?
A quest platform lists tasks and rewards whoever completes them, which suits volume but attracts scripts. We bring audiences through creators people already follow, and we time that content around any quest platform you use.
What does an airdrop marketing campaign cost?
Campaigns start from $2,000, with 10% off the first. A full points season with KOLs, explainers and live sessions usually needs more. We price each plan from your brief and book nothing until you approve it.
What airdrop marketing strategy keeps Sybil farmers out?
Reward an action a script finds hard to fake, bring users through creators with real audiences, track each creator separately, and avoid last-minute pushes before the snapshot. Your own Sybil filters still make the final call.
Do your creators promise allocations or token prices?
No. Creators explain how the program works and what the product does. They do not promise an allocation, a token price or any return, and every paid post is disclosed.
Can you help after the token is distributed?
Yes. We keep part of the budget for the weeks after the claim, with creator content on what to do next in the product. Retention after distribution is the number we report most closely.
